Sutton is a welcoming and friendly community, with 90% of residents agreeing in a 2025 survey that people from different backgrounds get along well together. The council believes everyone has the right to live free from fear, prejudice, and discrimination.
Earlier this week, as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, council representatives visited their Community Safety team and partners at Stop Hate UK outside the St Nicholas Centre. They engaged with local residents, shared advice leaflets, and discussed collaborative efforts to maintain safety and unity in Sutton.
The council, working with the police, charities, community and faith partners, and residents, is committed to opposing hatred in all its forms. They express pride in welcoming and supporting all individuals who call Sutton home, including those seeking safety from persecution.
To further this work, a motion will be presented at the next Council meeting. This motion aims to celebrate diversity and stand against hate in Sutton, recognising the significant value diverse communities bring to local life and sending a clear message against behaviour that threatens or intimidates residents.
Together, we say clearly: there is no place for hate in Sutton.
