The London Borough of Sutton is inviting residents to help shape its new Environment Strategy, aiming to make the borough an 'Even Greener Borough' and address the climate emergency.

The Council's new Corporate Plan prioritises making Sutton an ‘Even Greener Borough’, with a particular focus on responding to the local impact of the climate emergency. The forthcoming Environment Strategy will consolidate the ideas and policies needed to achieve this goal, and the Council is seeking public input to help define its direction.
Recent extreme weather, including the UK's hottest-ever summer with daily temperatures in the mid-thirties in the south of England, has highlighted the urgent need to address environmental challenges. The region is still officially in a drought as of early November, impacting green spaces and increasing temperatures in urban areas.
To tackle these issues, the Council is hosting community workshops and pop-up stalls across the borough. Residents, workers, and students are encouraged to share their views and ideas on key priorities such as energy-efficient homes, clean air, sustainable transport, green spaces, and waste management. The aim is to understand how environmental issues affect individuals and what support would help them take action.
“

"Whether it’s protecting our local parks, cutting carbon emissions or reducing waste, we want to hear what you think!"

Councillor Christopher Woolmer · Chair of Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee
In addition to the in-person events, an online survey will be launched soon for further public consultation. Further details will be announced shortly.
