“"I am delighted to be returning to my roots in acute care by joining LGT as its Chair. The Trust has made much progress in the last five years, and we share an ambition to drive better patient outcomes through partnership working at the heart of our communities. The synergy between what LGT and Oxleas both deliver for their patients in Bexley and Greenwich is apparent. Some 90% of patients cared for by LGT at Queen Elizabeth Hospital go on to receive community care and support from Oxleas, so my distinct involvement in both organisations makes sense for both trusts and their patients."

Professor Andrew George MBE has been appointed as the new Chair of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT), commencing his role on 1 November 2026.
Professor George succeeds Dr Nav Chana MBE, who has served as interim Chair since July 2026. He brings a wealth of experience in healthcare, education, and ethics, having previously worked as an academic immunologist in the UK and USA, and was awarded an MBE in 2017.
His new role as LGT Chair will complement his existing positions as Chair of the Health Innovation Network South London and Chair of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. This dual involvement is expected to strengthen relationships and improve patient outcomes across Bexley and Greenwich, where both organisations provide care.
Ben Travis, LGT CEO, welcomed the appointment, stating: “This is a stellar appointment for LGT, and we look forward to working with Andrew on the next phase of our strategy to deliver exceptional care for our patients. Supporting healthier communities is one of LGT’s top priorities, alongside delivering timely access and quality care. Andrew’s appointment will support the efforts LGT and Oxleas are already making to work more strategically across acute and community services in our shared patch. We can’t wait to welcome Andrew to Team LGT.”
The Trust also thanked Dr Chana for his stewardship. He will revert to his role as Vice-Chair and Non-Executive Director on the Board of LGT from 1 November 2026. Professor George's appointment was made by NHS England.
