Two former councillors, Liz Green and Diane White, have been awarded the title of Honorary Alderman by the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames for their exceptional service.

Liz Green and Diane White were presented with illuminated scrolls at a special council meeting on 13 October, joining a long list of distinguished former councillors to receive the award. The title of Honorary Alderman recognises individuals who have provided exceptional service during their tenure as elected officials.
Liz Green was honoured following 24 years of public service as a councillor. During her nearly two and a half decades as a member of the council, she served in almost every major leadership role, including Mayor, Leader of the Council, chair of numerous committees, and holder of multiple key portfolios.
“

"Thank you to the council for this honour, I am very proud to accept it. None of what matters can be done alone, so thanks to the officers I worked with, councillor colleagues across the chamber, and to the residents who trusted me to represent them."

Diane White was recognised for her 12 years of dedicated service as a councillor. Alongside her year as Mayor, she chaired several key committees, most recently the People Committee, and served as a Portfolio Holder. Throughout her career as a councillor, White was a champion for adults' and children's services and she was also involved with a number of local charities.
“

"It was such a privilege and honour to be elected to represent our residents and amplify their voice. Thank you to everyone in our very special borough; all our residents, colleagues and friends, both members and officers, community leaders and volunteers. It has been the best of 12 years."
