The appointment honours Ms Aust's longstanding commitment to education and communities across the capital. This follows her OBE for services to Further Education, which was presented earlier this year at Windsor Castle by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
Ms Aust emphasised that the honour reflects the collective contribution of West Thames College’s staff, students, governors, and partners. In her new role as Deputy Lieutenant, she will support the Lord-Lieutenant in representing the Crown, attending official events, and strengthening links with communities, charities, schools, colleges, and the armed forces. This focus on community engagement builds upon the partnerships that were central to her leadership at West Thames College.
Reflecting on the further education sector, Ms Aust highlighted ongoing pressures from funding, policy changes, and the rising number of young people not in education, employment, or training. She stressed the importance of inclusive education, robust employer and community partnerships, and maintaining a student-centred approach to leadership.
West Thames College congratulated Ms Aust on both honours and expressed gratitude for her continued commitment to Further Education.
