Lillie Road Recreation Ground in Fulham has achieved a Green Flag award, bringing Hammersmith & Fulham Council's total of recognised green spaces to a record high.

The park's achievement means it has been independently assessed by Keep Britain Tidy against an internationally recognised benchmark for quality, covering aspects from care and maintenance to heritage and safety.
Cllr Bora Kwon, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Arts and Culture, joined the Friends of Lillie Road Recreation Ground to raise the award on Saturday, 10 October. She stated, "We have incredible parks and green spaces locally. Having these spaces independently reviewed and celebrated shows that the experts agree. Caring for them – with the help of volunteers and Friends groups – is part of our work to make H&F the best borough to live, work and socialise."
Also present were Cllr Sharon Holder, Mayor of H&F, and Cllr Nicole Trehy, H&F Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency and Travel.
Adjacent to Fulham Cemetery and bordering Fulham Palace Road, the recreation ground is also home to Jenny's Corner, a community garden established in memory of former councillor Jenny Vaughan, who passed away in March 2024. The garden was conceived by Fulham resident and keen gardener Joan, who met Vaughan while trading plants.
A group of volunteers, led by Joan, are currently working to complete the sensory herb garden, aiming to create an inclusive space for all residents. Joan commented, "We were delighted and surprised to win the Green Flag award! The garden sits in a recreation ground that has hosted countless sporting activities, but I have seen few activities for less abled people. Having access to a green space does not necessarily make you part of the local community. Jenny's Corner means an inclusive community and a healthy environment."
Those interested in supporting Jenny's Corner can find volunteer opportunities on its website. To help care for Lillie Road Recreation Ground, individuals can join the Friends group via the council's webpage.
