The Royal Borough of Greenwich has celebrated the completion of Kidbrooke Park Road, the largest new 100% social housing development in the country, providing 452 homes for local people.

The development, part of the Greenwich Builds programme which aims to deliver 1,750 new council homes, features one to four-bedroom homes for individuals and families on the council’s housing register. It includes a nursery, retail space, play parks, 200 newly planted trees, and a sustainable energy centre.
Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, expressed pride in creating homes that set a standard for other local authorities, transforming lives with secure, affordable housing and a new community.
Cllr Jackie Smith, Deputy Leader and Member for Housing, highlighted the development as a revival of council home-building and a dream come true for hundreds of families.
Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, noted that London is leading nationally in council home building, with this development being a prime example of achieving new council homes at scale.
Ronan Murphy, CEO of Durkan Group, and Simon Bayliss, Managing Partner at HTA Design, both expressed their privilege in being delivery partners, emphasising the creation of a neighbourhood with a strong sense of place and identity.
Part-funded by the Greater London Authority, Kidbrooke Park Road has received several awards, including a Housing Design Award and the New London Architecture Mayor’s Prize. One in ten homes are wheelchair accessible, and all benefit from the sustainable energy centre.
The wider Greenwich Builds programme has now delivered over 1,000 new council homes, with hundreds more under construction, contributing to Royal Greenwich having the highest number of new affordable homes started of any London borough for three consecutive years (2022-2025).
