Birkbeck University students have the opportunity to receive a financial boost this autumn, as Santander Universities is offering ten Brighter Futures Grants, each worth £1,000.
The grants can be used flexibly to support student life and studies, covering areas such as living costs, study materials, technology, wellbeing, or professional development. A total of ten students will be selected at random to receive the award.
Abbie Carr, Director of Development and Alumni at Birkbeck, highlighted the long-standing partnership with Santander. "Birkbeck students have been supported through our partnership with Santander for more than a decade, with the Brighter Futures Grants having a significant impact," she stated. "The funding from these grants can be put toward whatever will best support the winners’ studies and wellbeing, which is a welcome boost at a time when many students face various financial pressures."
The scheme is open to all current Birkbeck students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and both part-time and full-time learners. Applicants do not need to be Santander customers.
To apply, students must register for Santander Open Academy, a free online learning platform, if they have not already done so. After registration, they need to click the verification link in their confirmation email, log in, select ‘Get Started’, and then choose ‘Birkbeck’ to enter the Brighter Futures Grants programme. The deadline for submissions is 11pm on 3 December 2026.
